Explore Agile Possibilities at Open Space

Open Space is based on three principles: passion, responsibility, and self-organization. It’s also an experience that’s one of a kind and an out-of-the-box way to experience sessions at a conference. 

Open Space is the main event on the second day of the Global Scrum Gathering. If you’ve never experienced Open Space, here’s an overview of what to expect.

When you enter the main Ballroom after the morning’s keynote, you’ll see chairs set up in a large circle with a large “open space” in the center and a large blank wall off to the side, which is often referred to as the Marketplace. Your facilitator will welcome everyone and then the fun begins. 

Anyone who wishes is invited to write their chosen topic of discussion on paper, step up to a microphone to announce the subject. Keep in mind that as the initiator of the topic you are responsible for facilitating the conversation once the sessions are selected. 

Once all discussion topics are announced and placed, discussion initiators walk it over to the blank wall to post it in an open time/location slot. People collaboratively combine and change the schedule. Once the schedule is solidified, everyone is invited to the Marketplace to choose their own schedule. The following hours are spent in these sessions.

At the end of the Open Space sessions, everyone comes together to share experiences, “aha” moments, and other takeaways.

Monday Mingles are our signature, can’t miss networking event at Global Gatherings. This is where you get to eat, drink, enjoy music, network, and unwind after the first day of Gathering experiences. If you ask anyone who has attended a Global Gathering in the past, they’ll tell you, it’s one of the best parties of the year. Held at Mile High Station, this year’s party has a top-secret theme that is the stuff of legends.
