The Scrum Alliance Board of Directors (BoD) has a minimum of nine members. Of these, at least five are appointed by the board and known as Board Elected Directors, or BED. Three are elected by the membership of the organization and referred to as Scrum Certified Members or SCM. One member is the current Chief Executive Officer of the organization.
In June of this year, we opened up the nomination period for the 2023 SCM election and received an impressive 1010 unique nominees. We are pleased to introduce the following three finalist candidates selected by the Nominating Committee. As an active Scrum Alliance member, you have the opportunity to vote on one candidate whose term on the Scrum Alliance BOD will commence on 1 January 2023.
I am an Agile trainer and coach with a passion for bringing Agilists together and building our Agile communities. In the late 2000’s, I helped establish, mentor, and grow the local Washington, DC area Agile Leadership Network (ALN), DC Scrum User Group (DC SUG), and was a founding member and on the leadership team of the Agile Delivery for Agencies, Programs, and Teams (ADAPT), a community group to help and guide Agile in government.
Since then, I have worked with the Scrum Alliance (SA) and Agile Alliance to grow our international communities. This work includes:
A Virginia Tech graduate and member of Mensa, I have written on Agile, Scrum, and Product Ownership topics and given keynotes around the world on these concepts. My background includes working with large organizations such as the Nasdaq Stock Market and Progressive Insurance, leading edge companies like the Motley Fool and Dashlane, Federal government agencies, and non-profits and associations. Personally, I was born in Taiwan and immigrated as a child to Canada, becoming a Canadian citizen. I then immigrated to the US and became an American citizen. I bring a distinct and diverse personal and professional background and perspective to our world of work.
My name is Angel, a Spaniard born and raised in the suburbs of Madrid. Coming from a humble family, I began working at the age of 16 to fund my studies and earned my university degree in IT Engineering.
I started my career as a software developer. In 2007, I experienced the challenging journey of a first-time Scrum Master, becoming passionate about Agile and finding my vocation.
Since then I:
This journey helped me become a creative, outspoken and forward-thinking professional that I believe will be of great service to our community.
I’d be honoured to represent your passion on reinforcing the true essence of Scrum for those whose dream is to ensure that the Scrum Alliance brand continues to stand out from other certification entities by providing a unique, thorough and modern training, coaching and consulting alternative capable to shape a global landscape of successful Scrum and Agile implementations.
I have dedicated my career to empowering people to be the best version of themselves, and challenging companies to create the right environment for these people to thrive. I believe in: you don’t do agile, you become agile!
My dedication shows in the volunteer work I have done through the years (Gathering Reviewer, User Group Leader, Regional Gathering host, Scrum Alliance Community Advisor, and Public Speaker). For the last 3+ years, I have served as the Chairperson of SUGSA with the mission to improve agile and Scrum maturity in South Africa. Over the years we have seen a direct increase in international speakers from South Africa and we have received feedback on how SUGSA has been a direct impact on people and their agile growth.
This is what others in the Scrum community say about me:
“You are a natural leader, that inspires others. Your can-do attitude kept us going through the toughest times”
“When I think agile, I think Malene. I do not know anyone that is more passionate than you”
“You always go the extra mile to serve others. You have taught me so much and I am in awe at what you are able to do”
“You’re an amazing leader, you know when to take control and when to let go”
