Building Scrum Alliance for 2022 and Beyond

COVID has fundamentally changed the conditions and challenged the business models for leading organizations. Now more than ever, real-world agility is essential for long-term success and sustainability.

A New Era Begins

In 2022 we need to gear up, further scaling and operationalizing our business to take advantage of the tremendous market opportunities that lie ahead. To help us get there, we are searching for a new CEO to build upon the strong foundation put in place by organizational Product Owner and CEO Howard Sublett, who has decided to step down to pursue other opportunities.

Until we find the right new CEO, day-to-day operations will be managed in the interim by COO Renee Mzyk and CFO Angela Stecovich, who have a long history and tenure with Scrum Alliance, and have been instrumental in our success to date. They will ensure that both the culture and the mission continue to flourish.

We’re Proud of Our Past & Excited About Our Future

Scrum Alliance created the first agile certification in 2001 (Certified Scrum Master®) and inspired a generation of agilists. Under Howard’s leadership, we grew our certificants over 50% to nearly 1.5 million worldwide and our provider community of Certified Scrum Trainers and Certified Agile Coaches by 40%. Other highlights of Howard’s tenure include:

  • Navigating a key pivot to virtual learning during COVID

  • Redefining our brand and defending our trademarks around the globe

  • Transforming our own organization into a more agile operation

We are so grateful for the way Howard led with integrity, honor and passion. It’s a testament to his character as well as his commitment to this organization and its mission.

We’ve been growing for 20 years, and have never once been short on ideas for where to grow next. We are looking for a CEO who can help us take the next big leap forward to execute on our vision to transform the world of work so completely that someday an agile way of working will simply be called working.

When we started, our biggest obstacle was to overcome a waterfall mindset. Our challenge today is to overcome agility in name only, companies who strive to do the process perfectly but miss the intent completely. That’s why our mission is to advance real-world agility by equipping the change maker in everyone and to inspire agility that goes far beyond a test, a badge, or even a framework. To meet this challenge, our next CEO must have experience preparing organizations for creative alliances and opportunities that greatly increase our reach and impact.

And We Know Some Things Will Never Change

Like Howard, our new CEO will understand that the passionate, talented change makers who make up Scrum Alliance––our staff, our provider community, and our members—are what set us apart. It is our shared values and our insistence that we’ve found a better way to work that compel us each day to equip all change makers with what they need to get the job, and to get the job done.

We are so excited about the future and cannot wait to get started building it together.
