The Scrum Alliance Board of Directors is comprised of a minimum of nine members. Of these, at least five are appointed by the Board known as Board Elected Directors, or BED, three are elected by the membership of the organization referred to as Scrum Certified Members or SCM, and two are the organization’s Chief Product Owner and Chief Scrum Master.
In May of this year, we opened up the nomination period for the 2020 SCM election and received an impressive 457 unique nominees. Of those nominees, 157 submitted an intent to run in this year’s election. We are pleased to introduce the following three finalist candidates selected by the nomination committee. Their term on the Scrum Alliance BOD will commence on 1 January 2021.
Aanu Gopald CSM® CSPO®, CSP®, CAL, CTC, CEC
I seek to inspire a movement that will transform the future of Africa through building a smarter generation of leaders.
I founded Africa Agility, an NGO using agile methods for social good, and Agile Africa Alliance. AAA is the force behind the 2021 Regional Scrum Gathering Nigeria, the first-ever in West Africa.
For the past two decades, I have lived, studied, and worked in Nigeria, UK, and USA at companies like SAHCOL, EDF Energy, TD Bank, Capital One, AT&T and Toyota, and recently launched my business. Along the way, I have learned it is only when we listen to each other, that will we find the best solutions for our organizations, our continents and our careers.
I believe Scrum Alliance is the right organization to enable equity and economic growth through agility. I ask for your support in my vision, as I aspire to join the Board of Directors.

Anu Smalley CSM® CSPO®, CSP®, CAL, CST®
My name is Anu Smalley. As the first woman of color to become a Certified Scrum Trainer®, I bring a unique perspective.
My agile journey has involved many roles, from software engineer to agile coach to entrepreneur. I formed my own business in 2016, helping to grow and transform organizations.
My relationship with Scrum Alliance started in 2013. I achieved my CST® in 2015 and Path to CSP® and CAL Educator in 2017. I have had frequent opportunities to give back to the agile community, as a Coaches Clinic volunteer, a Gathering track chair and program advisor, a speaker, and a member of the Trainer Approval Community.
As a Board member, I would seek to build the momentum of increasing diversity and inclusion—to connect to regions that are underserved and underrepresented. Truly transforming the world of work will only be possible when the entire world is represented and accepted.
