Here's why Munich is the place to be this May:

1. Experience agile and shape its future

The Global Scrum Gathering Munich lets you experience agile practices in action and explore how they can lead to meaningful change. You'll have opportunities to deepen your understanding of agility and apply concepts in real-world scenarios through interactive sessions, keynote presentations, and informal networking.

Scrum Alliance sees agility as a skill that can benefit anyone, not just tech teams or specific roles. The gathering demonstrates how agility helps individuals across industries handle challenges, drive change, and create value.

By joining, you're advancing your own journey while helping to grow the impact of agile as a key skill for everyone. Each session, conversation, and connection offers a chance to learn, collaborate, and contribute to shaping the future of work.

2. Meet people in the "Village of a Million People"

Large conferences can sometimes feel overwhelming, but we've designed the Global Scrum Gathering Munich to make you feel at home. Munich's nickname, Millionendorf, or "village of a million people," reflects the city's unique ability to combine a big city's energy with a small town's warmth. You'll experience that same sense of community at the gathering, where every attendee feels like part of the village.

The Munich experience features many opportunities to mingle:

  • First-time attendee welcome: With nearly 40% of participants attending their first gathering, this Sunday afternoon session is the perfect way to ease into the event. Share a drink, meet other attendees, and hear helpful tips on navigating the conference.
  • Welcome reception: This Sunday evening event is the perfect opportunity to spark meaningful connections and kick off an inspiring conference experience.
  • Monday Mingle: No Scrum Gathering is complete without a social highlight, and Munich delivers with this lively evening event at Von Alm das Beste. Enjoy Bavarian small bites, drinks, and entertainment that capture the region's spirit. Who knows—you might even find yourself twirling to the sound of music in this alpine setting! Bring a friend or partner with the optional guest ticket add-on, and share the fun.

These events help build our community and set the tone for a collaborative and inspiring few days.

3. Explore Munich: a city of history, culture, and beer

Munich, the capital of Bavaria, is a city that blends centuries of tradition with its role as a modern center for technology and innovation. The state of Bavaria is celebrated as the birthplace of lager and is home to half of Germany's breweries. In Munich, this brewing heritage comes to life in its iconic beer gardens, where long wooden tables sit under shady chestnut trees. Beyond its beer culture, Munich invites exploration with its stunning landmarks, rich history, and welcoming atmosphere.

Take advantage of the Guided Walking Tour on Tuesday evening to discover some of Munich's most iconic sights:

  • Marienplatz: The city's central square is a lively hub where centuries-old architecture meets modern life. Don't miss the Glockenspiel, an intricate clock on the New Town Hall tower that brings history to life with 43 bells and 32 moving figurines performing a charming mechanical show.
  • Frauenkirche: This beloved cathedral, with its twin onion-domed towers, is a symbol of Munich. Step inside to uncover its fascinating history or climb up the towers for panoramic views of the city and the Alps.
  • Munich Residenz: Explore over four centuries of royal history at Bavaria's former seat of power. The Munich Residenz is a vast palace complex filled with ornately decorated rooms, elegant courtyards, and artifacts that reflect the influence of the Wittelsbach dynasty.

When you're not attending sessions, take time to enjoy the outdoors. Stroll through the English Garden, one of the world's largest urban parks with its meandering paths, hidden streams, and even a spot for surfing on the Eisbach River.

With its historic landmarks, cobbled streets, and green spaces, Munich offers an experience that will leave a lasting impression.

4. Expand your skills in expert-led sessions

At the Global Scrum Gathering Munich, experienced agile practitioners lead a wide variety of talks and presentations. These sessions are built to address real-world challenges, help you develop your skills, and provide practical ideas to apply with your teams. Each presenter brings a unique perspective, with many sessions designed to include interactive elements and hands-on learning experiences.

Scrum Alliance members attending the gathering will also earn 24 Scrum Education Units (SEUs). If you have or plan to earn Scrum Alliance certifications, SEUs are required as part of the renewal. So attending the gathering is a great way to collect 24 of those SEUs at once!

As you attend, you'll have the chance to explore real-world challenges, exchange ideas with fellow participants, and learn actionable insights to apply in your work. The speaker sessions offer a chance to reassess your current methods, discover new approaches, and build the skills needed to thrive in your work environment.

5. Get tailored guidance at the Coaching Clinic

If you're facing organizational challenges, aspiring to grow as a leader, or looking for clarity on your next steps, the Coaching Clinic at the Global Scrum Gathering offers personalized, one-on-one support from Scrum Alliance Certified Agile Coaches.

These sessions provide a safe space to:

  • Discuss roadblocks in implementing agile frameworks.
  • Explore career growth opportunities.
  • Work through team dynamics.

The clinic features coaches who can serve as mentors, sounding boards, or guides, depending on your needs. Attendees often leave their Coaching Clinic sessions with fresh perspectives and practical solutions that they can apply to their agile journeys.

6. We want you to belong: diversity and inclusivity in agile

"Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance," as diversity expert Verna Myers famously said. At its core, the Global Scrum Gathering Munich celebrates the diverse voices and perspectives that make agility a powerful force for change. This year's event encourages active participation through partnerships with initiatives like:

  • Agile in Color, which highlights global POCcoaches, trainers, and thought-leaders through engaging lightning talks. These sessions provide fresh insights into the challenges and opportunities of applying agility across different contexts.
  • Women in Agile, featuring the Launching New Voices program, supports up-and-coming talent, giving women a safe and supportive platform to share their expertise and connect with others.

By joining the gathering, you contribute to an event that values and amplifies diverse perspectives to build a more inclusive agile community.

7. Gather at the Scrum Alliance Hub

The Scrum Alliance Hub is your go-to spot at the gathering for resources, activities, and opportunities to connect with the organization supporting your agile journey.

  • Certification consultation: Not sure which certification aligns with your goals? Meet with the Scrum Alliance team for personalized advice.
  • Badge station: Customize your lanyard with badges that highlight your certifications and achievements, adding a fun way to celebrate your progress.
  • Surprises and games: It's not all fun and games…except here! Stop by to enjoy some lighthearted fun.

The Hub is a place to celebrate your journey, make meaningful connections, and discover opportunities for growth.

8. Give yourself a break in the Relax Room

We know conference days can get long and sometimes you just need to get off your feet for a bit. The Relax Room offers a quiet, inclusive space for attendees to recharge.

  • Sink into soft seating with calming sounds and fidget toys to soothe your senses.
  • Take a break from the hustle of the conference to refocus and re-energize.

Your well-being is essential for your personal and professional success and this space serves as a reminder.
